The Forge and the Tyring platform

The blacksmiths was a thriving business well into the mid 20th century. Outside, the tyring platform is still seen. This was used to shape a hot iron ring onto a wooden wheel. This job was often done on a saturday so that others in the community could help to bring the wheel from the fire to the platform and cool the iron down with buckets of water. The old bellows are still in the workshop.
